Make your vote count in this Sheffield election

Voters in Sheffield have until April 18 to ensure they are registered for this years' local election.

Voting will take place on May 5 and this year, all 84 Sheffield City Council seats will be contested.

This means residents can vote for up to three candidates. At present, around four out of five people eligible to vote are registered.

However, the council is urging everyone to make sure they have a chance to make their vote count.

John Mothersole, Returning Officer for the elections in Sheffield said: “Your vote counts, but you need to be registered. I would encourage everyone to check to see if you need to register and ensure your name is listed so you don’t lose your right to vote in May.”

Under the new Individual Electoral Registration system, every individual is responsible for registering themselves and it takes just five minutes online.
