PET owners in South Yorkshire are being urged by the RSPCA to plan ahead for Bonfire Night if they own a nervous animal.
Last year the charity received 525 calls relating to pets scared of fireworks - and nearly 60 so far this year.
“We’re urging those holding displays to think about giving people in their area plenty of notice,” said chief veterinary officer James Yeates.
“We’re also urging people to go to organised displays and avoid putting on displays near animals.”
Mr Yeates added: “Please do check your bonfires before you light them as they’re ideal hiding places for wild animals. Also, keep animals inside and turn up your radio or TV to reduce the sound of the outside noises.”
