Lifelong Rovers fan Scott Richardson will lead his beloved team out onto the pitch at the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday night after being told his battle against cancer was 'no longer feasible'.

His friend Simon Lindsay has called for both Doncaster and Blades supporters to unite in a chant of 'there's only one Scott Richo' in the 28th minute of the game.

Simon said: "Sadly, Scott has been told his battle against cancer is no longer feasible and he has been given weeks to live and what he will do on Friday allows him to take in a Rovers game for potentially the last time but in an amazing way given the circumstances.

"I am asking fans for two things, if possible. Firstly, in the 28th minute a chant of 'there's only one Scott Richo' to be sang by as many fans as possible. Let's give the lad a memory he can take with him.

"Secondly, there will be buckets scattered around the ground which will be held by his friends. Any loose change would be welcome and whatever is collected will be added to what's been raised and passed to Scott's partner to help her and their child over the next few months."

Dad-of-one Scott, 28, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in January 2017 and has had 18 chemotherapy treatment sessions.

Simon added: "I don't know Scott that well but friends such as Patrick Slaven and Jack Kennedy have been huge in helping Scott’s plight and have been instrumental in raising money for their best friend and they contacted the club to arrange this for Scott this Friday."

Doncaster Rovers face Sheffield United in both team's final pre-season friendly before getting their 2018/19 league campaigns underway on Saturday, August 4.
