Major rail improvements affecting train journeys in Sheffield to begin tomorrow

Major rail improvement works which will affect thousands of journeys into and out of Sheffield are due to begin tomorrow, July 22.

Network Rail, which maintains the country's railways, is upgrading ageing lines in and around Derby station over the next three months, in a project costing £200 million.

The work is due to run from tomorrow until October 7, during which time 17km of track will be replaced and 79 new sets of points, 55 new signals and nine new gantries will be installed in the area.

Between July 30 and September 3 there will be no direct services between Sheffield and Derby, with a total of 96 services daily set to be affected.

Temporary timetables are in place throughout the duration of the work and passengers have been advised to check before travelling.
