The M1 motorway near Sheffield is set to be closed soon this evening in order to move horses off the road.

A horse box has broken down on the M1 Northbound near Junction 34 (Meadowhall), according to police Twitter account @SYPOperations.

The police tweeted: “Incident #M1 north jct 34 #Meadowhall horsebox breakdown. To assist transfer animals full closure North/South occur soon. Sorry for delays.”

Motorists are advised to avoid the road for the time being.
