M1 fire: Part of motorway closed after car bursts into flames

Part of the M1 had to be closed in Derbyshire after a car fire this morning.

Two lanes were shut on the northbound carriageway between junction 28 (Alfreton) and junction 29 (Chesterfield/Mansfield) because of the blaze at around 10.30am.

A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire.”
