M1 closed after lorry blaze

A LORRY fire caused chaos for motorists yesterday when the M1 in South Yorkshire was closed while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Crews were called to the burning lorry, which was carrying furniture, at 4.45am after it went up in flames on the northbound carriageway near Catcliffe and Meadowhall.

Both sides of the motorway were initially closed, but the southbound re-opened at 6am The northbound stretch remained partially closed until 10.30am.
