YOU’RE never too old, too big or too hairy to get a sloppy smacker from your mum.
And at 6ft 9ins tall and weighing in at 22 stone, they don’t come much bigger than James Raistrick.
James, aged 30, is sporting a moustache until the end of November as part of the Movember charity challenge.
Mum Sue, of Robin Lane, Beighton, hasn’t been put off by her son’s hairy new look - even giving him a kiss.
James, of Frecheville, known to his many mates as Lurch, is growing the hairy beast to raise money for the Sheffield Hospital’s Charity in memory of his dad Andy, a 57-year-old former police officer who died last month.
He hopes to raise £4,000 to pay for lifting equipment to be used in the Palliative Care Unit where his dad spent his final days and has raised £1,700 so far.
James, a gas fitter for Kier, said: “The doctors, nurses and support staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Northern General Hospital were nothing short of amazing.
“This unit is kept open by donations so all money raised will go directly to them.
“I am hoping to raise enough to allow them to purchase essential equipment and to carry on doing the fantastic job they are doing.
“All donations no matter what size are very welcome.”
But James admits the ’tache does tickle and says: “My girlfriend Derrin has imposed a kissing ban and there are other drawbacks.
“I’m not going to tell you about some of the looks I’m getting at the moment and all my mates are pulling my leg about it. I’ve been called a Mexican extra from a Spaghetti Western, a Colombian drugs baron and someone even asked me where my leather chaps and cowboy hat is!”
James first hit the headlines when, in another charity challenge, he became the first man to eat a family sized whole Big T - Sheffield’s biggest kebab, from the KPC takeaway in Birley.
He plans to auction the right to shave it off to the highest bidder.
“I think our lass will definitely put a bid in to get rid of it. But whoever does it will be doing a power of good for the charity - and my top lip.”
