Developers Crowley Associates had applied to build the properties, along with garages, access roads and associated parking on land at the junction of Black Lane and Loxley Road, in Loxley.

"The Local Planning Authority consider that the development of this site for up to four dwellings would lead to the unrestricted sprawl of the built up area and the encroachment of urban development into the countryside. The development is therefore considered to detract from the general openness, landscape character and visual amenities of the Green Belt and would not conserve and enhance the landscape and natural environment," the planning report states.

Councillors considered the application at a meeting of the planning and highways committee on Tuesday, May 1.
