Lottery winners pocket £53,000

MOST people have their eye on a flash new motor when they win the lottery.

But Chesterfield couple Ivor and Karen Churchard, who are celebrating a £52,888 win, are buying a lawnmower.

Ivor, aged 53, whose winning ticket matched five numbers and the bonus ball, said: “I haven’t decided what I want but my lawnmower broke the other week and the lawn needs cutting.

“Most people buy a Range Rover when they win… I’m buying a Mountfield!”

Ivor and Karen gave up their jobs six years ago – Ivor was a coffee machine engineer and Karen worked in local government – to open Stephenson Coffee House in the town centre.

The couple haven’t had a holiday since they started the venture and a trip is top of their shopping list, along with a meal for all their staff.

Ivor was watching a film late at night when he decided to check his Lottery numbers.

He said: “I don’t normally check the winning numbers, but I turned on the TV and took a look.

“Karen wasn’t too happy about being woken up but came downstairs and took a look for me and I’m glad she did.

“We woke our two boys, Matthew and James, who also checked the numbers for us. We couldn’t believe how much we’ve won.”
