LOTTERY cash has been awarded to help disadvantaged families living in deprived areas of Barnsley.

The Big Lottery Fund has given £297,644 to Home Start Barnsley to support families with parenting issues.

Volunteers will be trained to visit families in their homes to improve the verbal skills and socialisation of young children and to work with parents to inspire them to raise their aspirations.

Big Lottery Fund spokeswoman Caroline James said the cash will make a ‘big difference’.
