property worth more than £1.6 million changed hands at a Blundells Auction House event – with 18 of the 22 properties up for auction selling above their guide price.

One of the lots, a detached development of three commercial units and flats in Darnall, sold for double its £65,000 guide price.

Renovation properties dominated the event, with homes in need of a facelift being snapped up in areas including Woodseats, Frecheville and Gleadless.

Total sales at the auction reached £1,402,109, with one property selling before the event, one post auction and just two properties remaining unsold.

Lucy Crapper, senior auctioneer at Blundells, said: “To have a sold rate of 91 per cent with more than £1.6 million worth of property selling at the first auction of 2013 is great.

“It’s really set the tone for the year to come.

“As the property market continues to be a tough place to buy or sell, auctions are really increasing in popularity – especially for people looking to buy-to-let, or for a residential or commercial renovation project.”
