Police are again urging lorry and van drivers to be on their guard after a spate of thefts in the Doncaster area.

In the latest incident, a £150,000 heavy goods vehicle, carrying a crane, was stolen from a town centre hotel car park on Tuesday. The vehicle was later found abandoned at Stockbridge Lane, Bentley, with its load intact.

Chief Inspector Gwyn Thomas said: “We are seeing an increase in the number of tools and plant equipment being stolen from across the area.

“We’d urge drivers of commercial vehicles to keep belongings safe and secure, remove tools from vans overnight and at weekends and ensure plant equipment is in a safe location.”
