But only a win tomorrow will satisfy the club’s director of rugby, whose charges are on course to claim a top-two spot in the Championship just three years after being relegated.

Depending on the result of tonight’s Nottingham-Jersey clash, they could secure their place in the play-offs with four games to spare if they were to beat the Exiles.

“We know what we’ve got to do down there to come away with a result,” said the Welshman.

“And if Nottingham do lose tonight we certainly won’t lack any incentive. If everything goes well for us over the next 48 hours then we’ll have a good celebration tomorrow night.”

Although Griffiths is far too experienced to take the Exiles for granted, he doesn’t think tomorrow’s game will be the toughest of their three remaining away fixtures.

“Moseley will probably be the toughest because they are down their fighting for their lives,” he said. “Whereas both London Scottish and London Welsh have nothing really left to play for apart from trying to finish as high in the table as they can.”

Despite languishing in the bottom half of the table, Scottish have a better defensive record than Doncaster.

“They don’t concede many points but don’t score many either because they play a basic game with a lot of kicking and forward drives from where Mark Bright (the Championship’s top try-scorer last season) scores a lot of his tries,” said Griffiths, who will finalise his squad today.
