Livestock can be moved

DONCASTER livestock farmers today welcomed news that Yorkshire has been designated as a 'low risk area' for foot and mouth disease.

Chief veterinary officer Debbie Reynolds yesterday announced farm-to-farm movements will be allowed from 3.30pm today, subject to strict conditions.

In Yorkshire and the North East, the partial relaxation of movement restrictions will ease some of the pressure on livestock farmers.

It is the busiest time of year in the livestock farming calendar with more than 360,000 cattle and sheep due to be traded in autumn sales.
