LISTED: The buildings and sites in Sheffield deemed '˜at risk' by Historic England

Sheffield’s landscape is constantly changing and evolving as more and more investment is pumped into the city.

There are new developments, more student accommodation and exciting skyscrapers popping up in every corner.

Not since the days of the Industrial Revolution where Sheffield gained its reputation as the Steel City has the city transformed so quickly

However, for all the new and exciting development in the city there are still architectural gems that are cherished by many.

Some of Sheffield’s most important sites are historic churches or industrial structures that are at risk of being lost forever.

This could either be through neglect, decay or vandalism but all of which Historic England have deemed worthy of protecting.

The Heritage at Risk programme helps Historic England ‘understand the overall state of England’s historic sites’.

The scheme was launched in 2008 and identifies the sites that are most at risk of being lost as a result of neglect, decay or inappropriate development.

Every year Historic England updates the Heritage at Risk Register and the end result is a dynamic picture of the sites most at risk and most in need of safeguarding for the future.

There are more than 20 sites, landmarks and buildings in Sheffield that have been deemed at risk by Historic England.
