The lights were off for about two hours this afternoon.

A spokesman for Derbyshire County Council – which is responsible for the area’s highways – said workmen worked “really hard” to get the lights back on.

The spokesman added: “We’re not sure what’s caused the lights to go out.”

Horns Bridge is a large multi-lane roundabout which carries about 26,000 vehicles every day.

Traffic lights were introduced there in 2007 in an effort to reduce casualties and traffic flows have increased since then, according to the council.

Some residents took to our Facebook page to say traffic flowed better around the roundabout without the lights.
