Library cuts hit rural folk

Have your say

CUTS to mobile library services and opening times have been criticised for the impact on people in rural Sheffield.

Penistone and Stocksbridge Labour MP, Angela Smith, said: “In Sheffield we are seeing cuts in the mobile library service which many less able people rely on and cuts in opening times for Stocksbridge, Chapeltown, and Ecclesfield libraries.

“Library services in rural areas such as those I represent are vital. It’s a pity Lib-Dem run Sheffield Council is not only getting rid of mobile services, but is also cutting opening hours for libraries.”

But Lib Dems say they are cutting hours to avoid closing libraries and mobile libraries can be brought back when the economy improves.
