Library closures an attack on the poor

Have your say

I was reading your paper today (Thursday, October 3), and was appalled to once again see that the Labour Council are riding rough-shod over residents’ views.

You would think that 13,000 people signing a petition would be enough to get the point across that people in Sheffield need and want our local libraries.

I find it very hypocritical of Labour to be targeting a community service which gives free access to books, learning and indeed subsidised internet.

When I was unemployed and did not have the internet at home, I went to the library to research jobs and to email job applications to employers. The closure of these libraries is tantamount to an attack on the poor and unemployed, not to mention the disabled – and I for one will be supporting the Lib Dems in their attempts to keep our libraries open.
