Liam Cameron wins Commonwealth title after stopping Sam Sheedy in thrilling all-Sheffield war

Cameron forced an early finish in the eighth round to claim the Commonwealth crown at the third attempt.

Sheedy showed remarkable bravery to continue for as long as he did, particularly after being dropped three times in the fourth round as Cameron landed punishing body shots.

The Manor fighter locked his sights on the right side of Sheedy following the first knockdown, and each subsequent clean hit saw the Wisewood man drop to his knees.

But each time, Sheedy got back to his feet and boxed on, showing trademark bravado which resulted him being deducted a point for use of the head.

It even looked like the tide was turning with Cameron looking tired as the fight wore on but he dropped Sheedy with another body shot in the seventh before giving him a standing count at the end of the round after a barrage of punches left the defending champion dazed.

Again Sheedy fought on but Cameron landed a brilliant left hook to open the door for a string of clean shots. At that point, the referee had seen enough and stepped in to wave the fight off, crowning Cameron as the new champion.
