LETTERS: Women are capable and valuable, but I also like them nude

I can't help but feel pleased that the Spearmint Rhino strip club on Brown Street has had its licence extended, despite the predictable objections of a snooty few who claim it is 'demeaning' and 'offensive to women'.

Where is it written that valuing a woman as a person and enjoying her naked have to be mutually exclusive? I think women are every bit as intelligent, capable and valuable as men, but I also like them when they’re nude, and I’m not ashamed of that.

I know several men who frequent such establishments, and they do so with the full consent of their wives and girlfriends - the odd one of whom will tag along, occasionally.

These clubs create jobs and revenue, which is then pumped back in to the city; pubs, takeaway joints, taxi firms and even shops benefit.

Without wishing to stereotype, I thinks it’s fair to say that some of the women who work at the Rhino haven’t got much in the way of qualifications or career prospects, so what are they going to do if you take away their jobs - work in retail outlets for minimum wage, or go on the dole? Who benefits by that?

Spearmint Rhino isn’t obviously a strip club when viewed from the outside, so it doesn’t lower the tone of the area, and it isn’t a crime hot spot, so the public is at no additional risk. What is the problem, exactly? There isn’t one - it’s just snobbery masquerading as social conscience.

For me, this is just another example of how one branch of feminism likes to demonise male sexuality; to present it as something dirty and sordid that the public must be “protected” from.

Here’s an idea: stop trying to shame men for their biological impulses.

I’ve never visited a strip club before, but maybe the missus and I will give it a go, just to see what all the fuss is about.
