LETTERS: Poppy appeal needs you to raise cash for veterans

Have your say

How lovely it was to see your coverage of the parade of the Third Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment through the streets of Sheffield.

Though Poppy Appeal may be far from our minds during this glorious hot weather, the annual two-week appeal and period of Remembrance will start in just over three months and around the country, Poppy Appeal organisers are busily preparing to raise as much money as they can to ensure that The Royal British Legion can continue to deliver its welfare services to current members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

All Poppy Appeal organisers are volunteers and every year we have a small number who feel they cannot continue to fulfil the role because of ill-health or old age.

This is the case in the village of Hope in Derbyshire and also in Worksop and Langold in Nottinghamshire.

I would be grateful if you could publicise the need for volunteers in this area, so that we can continue to honour our Armed Forces in these areas by making poppies available in the local community.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Poppy Appeal can visit http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/support-us/volunteering.

If they would like an informal chat about the Poppy Appeal organiser role in one of these areas, they can contact me on 07973 750816 or via email at cselden@britishlegion.org.uk
