LETTERS: Calling people ‘love’ is endearing, not patronising

Have your say

I heard on the news about the care commission saying it’s patronising to call people in care homes “love” or any such affectionate names.

Love is a Sheffield/ Yorkshire term of endearment. Are we also going to stop Geordies saying “pet”, Scots saying “hen”, Scousers saying “lar or queen”, even southerners saying stuff like “ treacle” or whatever?

These people want to get a life, it’s not patronising it’s an endearment .
