Let's stick to four-year parliaments, says MacShane

FIXED term parliaments should be introduced to prevent speculation over the dates of General Elections, a Rotherham MP has said.

Denis MacShane says Britain should move to a non-negotiable four-year parliament to stop the debate over whether Prime Minister Gordon Brown would call an autumn election.

The MP said: “Britain is the only modern democracy in the world which does not have fixed term parliaments. The endless speculation has been one of the most unedifying spectacles in recent political life."
