EVER heard the expression ‘it’s raining cats and dogs’?
Well residents of Coventry can beat that after a freak storm of apples hit there this week!
Bemused motorists were forced to take evasive action after the fruity downpour on Monday night and it’s fair to say the avalanche of apples has everyone baffled.
Theories include freak weather picking them up and dumping them from somewhere else, or that the apples were plane cargo.
Surprisingly, this isn’t unheard of, with incidents involving fish, maggots and even frogs raining from the skies reported in the last hundred years.
Given this background, I imagine the residents should just be grateful it wasn’t worse and, as the old adage goes, ‘when life hands you lemons, make lemonade!’
Or, in this case, apple crumble.
