COUNCIL bosses have agreed to spend £500,000 revamping a threatened leisure centre in North East Derbyshire.

Sharley Park Centre in Clay Cross will see a new fitness suite with brand-new gym equipment and improvements to building.

NE Derbyshire District Council had considered abandoning the centre and building a new site in Clay Cross – but decided refurbishment was the best way forward.

Council leader Graham Baxter said: “The council is committed to keeping the centre open and this investment will safeguard its future.”
