Laura Jones column: Owls are missing Kieran Lee's creative spark

Watching what’s happening in high definition, the clarity of what irritates you about your significant other seems glaringly obvious.

What irritated Sheffield Wednesday supporters, despite the victory, was the inertia and the lack of creativity.

For me it only highlighted how much we are missing Kieran Lee in midfield. Although the issues are not fundamental, it was enough to mak eyou want to send the Owls’ to the spare room for the night and sleep off the evening.

Our visitors on Friday evening have had relationship problems of their own.

Former Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett has been accused this week of batting “his eyes at every other club” whilst he was with the Blues.

The inexplicable decision to sack Rowett after a 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town and a place in the play-offs, has meant a steep decline in Birmingham’s chances for promotion.

The team, under new beau Gianfranco Zola, only secured their first win last weekend since Rowett’s sacking. It took a 10 man Fulham for them to achieve this.

Wednesday’s win ratio at Hillsborough of 65.85 per cent under Carlos Carvalhal, makes us odds on for a great Friday night out against Birmingham.

I don’t think many Wednesdayites will dispute that the Owls are grinding out the results well, in a way they didn’t last season, but the aesthetic performances have definitely let themselves go since Carvalhal first joined the club.

We don’t have to worry about Carvalhal making eyes at other clubs or leaving us in the lurch but show us something positive on the pitch so we don’t roll our eyes at you Wednesday.

We want to feel like we earned the win.
