TRIBUTES have been paid to a Sheffield councillor who has died in St Luke’s Hospice after a battle against cancer.

Coun Janice Sidebottom, aged 65, a city councillor for 13 years initially representing Broomhill then Fulwood for the Liberal Democrats, was ‘passionate about local issues’, said colleagues.

Hallam MP Nick Clegg said: “Janice was a friend and a much respected member of the Liberal Democrats in Sheffield. She was passionate about local issues and did a great job of representing residents for more than a decade on the council. Her knowledge on planning and development issues was second to none.

“Above all else, Janice was an extremely warm and friendly person. She will be sadly missed and all our thoughts are with her family.”

Coun Shaffaq Mohammed, Lib Dem leader on the council, added: “I counted Janice as a close friend and an invaluable source of knowledge and experience.”

Coun Sidebottom, who lived in Nether Green, was a member of Friends of Porter Valley and Ranmoor Society.
