Staff and children at a Sheffield pre-school are celebrating after being given the top rating by Ofsted inspectors.

Sunshine Pre-School, in Woodthorpe, has been judged as outstanding following a visit from the education watchdog - a step up from its previous 'good' rating.

Inspector Carly Polak found children 'flourish,' management is 'inspirational' and the education programmes are 'exemplary'.

She found that children make 'rapid progress' at the pre-school, which is part of the Manor and Castle Development Trust .

Pre-school manager, Becky Kirk, said: "We feel extremely proud of the children and happy the dedication of the staff team has been recognised.

"Acknowledging the hard work with such wonderful words as exceptional, exemplary and inspirational is a brilliant feeling."

Development manager for children and families at MCDT, Wendy Kettleborough, added: "We feel this affirmation will boost staff morale and encourage us to continue in our pursuit of excellence.

"The term outstandingly outstanding has now become a buzz word in the pre-school."

The inspection report said staff are 'excellent role models' for the children and found management work tirelessly to support staff and ensure children benefit from early years provision of the highest quality.

It added that the pre-school has a well-resourced indoor and outdoor learning areas and children flourish in an environment where 'their wellbeing and learning are staff's utmost priority.

To further improve the inspector said the pre-school must enhance its 'highly effective' programme of professional development to sustain the already outstanding teaching practice.
