Councillor steps down

PERSONAL issues have forced a South Yorkshire councillor to resign less than two years after being elected.

Coun Roy Butterwood has given up his St Helen’s Ward seat on Barnsley Council.

He said: “I am quite simply unable to give the time and commitment expected of a modern day councillor.”

Council leader Coun Steve Houghton said: “The council is disappointed to lose such a hard working and committed councillor.”

A by-election will be held on Thursday, October 13.
