A cinema complex which was closed on 'health and safety' grounds earlier today has re-opened.

Managers at Cineworld on the Valley Centertainment complex opposite The Arena announced earlier today that the cinema had been closed for 'health and safety' reasons.

No explanation was provided at the time but the firm has just announced that the complex has re-opened and that a lighting fault was to blame.

The closure notice was posted on the Cineworld Sheffield Facebook at around 9.30am and the re-opening notice 40 minutes later.

The latest post reads: "We are open, a little technical gremlin doesn't stop us for long.

"Thank you for understanding."

A Cineworld spokeswoman added: “We can confirm that before opening this morning, Cineworld Sheffield had a problem with its lighting.

"As a precautionary measure, the cinema notified customers that it was unable to open.

"The lighting issue was fixed promptly, and the cinema will open as usual today.

"We look forward to welcoming customers into screen today and this weekend.”
