Late strike earns boys trophy replay

Sheffield Under-15s must replay their English Schools Trophy first round match after being held to a 4-4 draw after extra time by Tameside in their first Round clash at Woodburn Road on Saturday.

The youngsters suffered a setback when the visitors took the lead on 15 minutes but they were level five minutes later when Jack Smith fired home from 18 yards. It was all square at the break.

Sheffield had the better of the early exchanges after the restart and edged ahead through Marcus Jepson, before the Tamesiders levelled the scores and then took the lead with six minutes remaining.

But the local lads held their nerve and were rewarded when Danny Clinton headed home with just two minutes to go to send the game into extra time.

Tameside looked to have clinched victory with a fourth goal in the first period of extra time but Sheffield equalised through Ben Pond in the dying minutes to earn a replay.

Sheffield U-13s went down 2-1 to Worksop in a challenge .

The U-13s had much the better of the opening exchanges and took the lead after 15 minutes through Niall Smith, but conceded two late second-half goals.

Rotherham U-15s slipped to their first defeat of the season, losing 6-1 to Bradford in a challenge match. Michael Cookson gave them an early lead.

Rotherham U-14s beat Bradford’s younger representative side 2-1. Trailing 1-0 at the break, they equalised through Liam Royles and Jamie Fawcett grabbed the winner.

Barnsley U-14s beat South Notts 4-3 in a challenge game with goals from Tom Adams, Giorgio Williams, Ben Howlett and Bradley Simpson.

Barnsley U-12s beat South Notts 3-1. Kane Reece scored two, and George Smith one.

A Jordan Hardcastle goal couldn’t stop Barnsley U-11s A team going down 7-1 to Leeds. Barnsley U-11s B lost 5-0 against Leeds.
