Late Sheffield councillor Isobel's £9,000 legacy to hospice and culture

Nearly £10,000 has been raised so far in memory of Sheffield councillor Isobel Bowler.

Following Isobel’s death from cancer aged 52 at the end of June, donations were collected for St Luke’s Hospice in Whirlow and the Sheffield Culture Consortium, reflecting the councillor and cabinet member’s dedication to arts, sport and leisure in the city.

In an update from Isobel’s husband Richard, daughter Mary, and her parents Kenneth and Sarah, it was revealed that the total to date has reached £9,000.

“It is a great comfort to us to know that she was held in such high esteem and that she will be remembered by so many people for all she did.”

They added: “Please can we thank all those who have written, or sent cards and tributes, to our family while Isobel was ill and since her death.

“We would also like to thank the medical profession in Sheffield for the wonderful care Isobel received during her illness.”

The Labour councillor for Mosborough was diagnosed with cancer in autumn 2015.

During the funeral at Sheffield Cathedral it was announced that a new £6 million football hub being built on the old Westfield School site in Mosborough will be named the Isobel Bowler Sports Park in tribute.
