CAMPAIGNERS fighting cuts to school crossing patrol workers plan a last ditch protest at Barnsley Council’s budget meeting today.

Residents of Hoyland Common, who have held protest marches and handed in a petition containing 700 signatures, are attending the meeting at Oakwell Football Stadium, beginning at 10.30am, to see if their campaign to force a rethink has been successful.

Organiser Elizabeth Coldwell said: “We want the council to know that we are tenacious, serious, and will not give up until we have obtained the result they need in order to keep the children at Hoyland Common Primary School safe.”

Three lollipop ladies face the axe at Hoyland Road and Sheffield Road, Hoyland Common, and on Doncaster Road in the town centre, to save £50,000.
