Nearly 50 pubs have closed their doors for good in Sheffield since 2010, The Star can reveal today.

Forty-six pubs have shut down across the city – mostly to make way for convenience stores and apartments.

The closures leave Sheffield with 383 pubs still open.

Darnall has been the worst hit community in the city after losing nine pubs.

The Campaign for Real Ale’s Mike Rose said: “It’s appalling. Pubs are part of Sheffield’s community. We are losing our heritage.”

The figures were revealed in a Freedom of Information request to Sheffield Council under The Star’s Your right To Know campaign.
