More than 200 people walked from Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre to the United Reformed Church, where they enjoyed craft activities, music from Sheffield Community Choir and refreshments.

Melanie King, Sanctuary Housing’s neighbourhood partnerships manager for Shiregreen, said: “This project had an amazing atmosphere with live music and a magical lantern parade. It was wonderful to see so many people brought together from across Shiregreen neighbourhood for such a special occasion.”

Lanterns were made in weeks prior to the parade in free community workshops led by artists.

The whole event was organised by the Sheffield-based arts organisation Ignite Imaginations, with Sanctuary Housing.

Ignite Imaginations, formerly Art in the Park, encourages vibrant and creative communities in Sheffield and secured support from the Big Lottery Fund’s Celebrate programme for this project. Support from Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund was able to double the hours of workshops to benefit Sanctuary residents and communities.
