Just nine days after being re-instated to the party following his suspension for posting offensive online comments years ago, Mr O’Mara claimed in a letter to his constituents last week that he had “not been listened to or been given a fair investigation”.

A statement by Labour released tonight read: “Recognising the difficult circumstances in this case, we will continue to offer support to Jared O’Mara in any way we can, as we have throughout.”

Mr O’Mara, who was elected in 2017 after beating former deputy prime minister and leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg.

Mr O’Mara did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
