A CHESTERFIELD woman will be joining work colleagues from across the country for a fundraising trek of a lifetime in support of a leading cancer charity.
Kristy Hopkins will be part of a dozen-strong team from Thales UK electronic systems company who will be attempting to scale Killimanjaro – the fourth highest mountain in the world – to raise cash for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The team is aiming to raise £54,000 for the charity with the trek, which will take them along the Tanzania-Kenya border and up 19,300ft to the high peak, before spending six days at the summit.
Kristy said: “Marie Curie does an amazing job and I personally couldn’t dream of being strong enough to do what these nurses do, which is why they need to be supported and this is one way I thought I could help.
“Sometimes it’s only when your health is taken away from you that you truly understand how important it is.”
