Knutty's back - and you could join him!

THERE'S just one thing missing from the all-star cast line-up of the panto Cinderella at Sheffield's Lyceum Theatre this Christmas and that's the girl playing the title role.

And if you're pretty, over 17 and can act, sing and dance it could be you!

It's every young girl's dream to be Cinderella and producers Evolution Pantomimes are holding an X Factor-style open audition next month to find the right one.

It follows the success of TV talent shows such as How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria and Any Dream Will Do to find new faces to play in productions of The Sound of Music and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

"We thought we should have a go as well," says executive producer Mark Feakins.

"There is so much talent coming out of Yorkshire, amateur and professional, and we thought we should have a look.

"It's open to anybody from Yorkshire but it would be great if it was a Sheffield lass," he adds.

Local amateur dramatic groups and dancing schools have been contacted but on the day - Saturday September 29 - the audition at the nextdoor Crucible theatre will be open to all.

Girls will have just two minutes to sing a song on stage and win over the panel of judges.

The lucky girl will be playing alongside seasoned professionals such as comic Bobby Knutt, Neighbours star Ryan Maloney, Matt Baker of Blue Peter, Emmerdale's Hayley Tamaddon and Rob 'The Builder' McVeigh , from Rotherham, who came to fame bidding to play Joseph in Any Dream Will Do. Mark says the girl who plays Cinderella is not usually a 'name'.

Those parts usually go to roles like Dandini and Baron Hardup.

The girl picked will appear in all 46 shows and be available from the start of rehearsals on November 26 until the final performance on January 12.

She will be paid a proper wage at the going rate.

Evolution, run by Twickenham-based Emily Wood and her husband Paul Hendy, former presenter of Don't Do This At Home, are holding similar auditions at three other pantos they are staging.

Respectively producer and director of Cinderella, they will be joining Mark on the judging panel.

They will run their eye over the girls in a group dance warm-up and movement session on stage. The young hopefuls will each have a two minute bid for fame.

"We will call people back in the afternoon. Hopefully we will make the decision by the end of the day," says Mark.

In another innovation, instead of taking children from a local dancing school for the junior ensemble there will be an audition at the Crucible on Sunday, September 30.
