Kind-hearted South Yorkshire handyman gives services for free

The handy 25-year-old is dedicating his spare time over the Christmas holidays to lend a helping hand to anyone that needs him – entirely for free.

Michael, of South Road, Barnsley, set up a Facebook page called ‘Barnsley Christmas Giveback 2015’ where he advertises his services for everything from gardening to light vehicle repairs – all free off charge.

The page has already attracted more than 150 likes and so far no customer has been left disappointed.

Michael said: “I know for some people this time of year is difficult for people financially and for those who struggle to do things by themselves.

“I thought rather than sitting on my bum I would give something back to those who need it.”

Michael has recently left his job as a recruitment manager to begin a new role in the new year.

But he plans to help the people of Barnsley, Sheffield and Rotherham until January 3 – and already his good deeds have been praised by people he has helped.

Dawn Ward, from Barnsley, said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to Michael for putting up four new light fittings for my parents Cath and Brian Ward in Chapeltown.

“They really appreciated you giving up your time to help them out. A donation will be made to a charity.”

Kathryn Holling, from Wombwell, said: “As a single mum that doesn’t drive he’s been a godsend and turned up when he said he would.”

Michael’s work has inspired others to get in touch to lend him a helping hand – with a local chip shop offering him a free meal between jobs and a hairdressers offering a free haircut.

The big-hearted handyman has asked people who wish to pay him to instead donate the cash to a charity.

Michael said: “It is the season of giving and every good turn deserves another.”
