Derek Risdel was presented with a new mobility scooter after his was stolen

They clubbed together to buy a replacement for 91-year-old Derek Risdel after his scooter was stolen during a raid of his garage in Royston on Saturday, March 17.

POLICE: Combat knife found on Sheffield streetIn a joint statement, the PCSOs said: "Mr Risdel, who cares for his wife, used the scooter to go to the shops and run errands, so when it was taken so was his independence and freedom.

"On hearing this we both, along with other officers in the Royston Neighbourhood Policing Team, decided that we wanted to try and raise some money to get him another.

"Through donations from officers, along with the help of More Mobility in Swinton, we were able to present him with a new scooter.

"Seeing how touched he was and hearing his comment of 'it’s better than my old one' was so lovely to hear, and we were so happy to be able to give him some of his independence back."
