As police officers take part in Operation Sceptre this week - a crackdown on knife crime - the following victims are why this action is needed.

Here are some knife crime victims either killed or seriously injured in stabbings in South Yorkshire over recent months and years. The list is not exhaustive.

Sam was stabbed to death in Lowedges, Sheffield, last May when the knife he was carrying was used against him. His killer was sentenced to two years and eight months after admitting manslaughter.
Jarvin was the first person stabbed to death in Sheffield last year when he was attacked at the junction of Catherine Street and Brackley Street, Burngreave, on Thursday, March 8. Four men have been charged.

Ryan was knifed in his chest in Tannery Close, Woodhouse, Sheffield, last May by a rival drug dealer in a row over territory. His killer was jailed for 12 years after admitting manslaughter.
Ms Hibberd, who ran the Fantasia massage parlour in Attercliffe, Sheffield, was stabbed 70 times by a burglar in her home in Barnsley, Wombwell last May. Her killer was jailed for 35 years after being found guilty of murder.
Mr Boardman was stabbed in his home in Steven Close, Chapeltown, Sheffield, last May. His neighbour, Michael Goddard , was jailed for 24 years after being found guilty of murder.
A teenager was stabbed in his back when violence flared outside Nayabs takeaway on Buchanan Road, Parson Cross, last October. He survived the attack.
A 27-year-old man was left fighting for life in a knife attack close to the Wagon and Horses pub and the Chapeltown Tap House and Gin Bar, Chapeltown, on New Year's Eve. Nobody has been arrested.
Fahim, from Broomhall, was stabbed to death outside Cineworld on the Centertainment complex, Atterliffe, Sheffield, last September when two groups of friends clashed. Nobody has been charged.
Casey was stabbed to death in Elmfield Park, Doncaster, in a random attack by a woman in 2012. Her killer was convicted of murder and jailed for 22 years.
A man needed 167 stitches after he was slashed across his neck, face and arms in a stabbing at the Terminus Tavern, Darnall, Sheffield, in April 2017. His attacker was jailed for 16 years.
Joshua was stabbed in his neck in an attack on the dance floor of the Stars and Mayfair function suite on Queens Road, Sheffield, on New Years Day 2012. His killer has never been caught.
Brett was fatally stabbed in an attack by two former friends at a city centre nightclub in 2008 in a series of tit-for-tat assaults as the S3 postcode gang imploded. His killers were jailed for life.
A man was stabbed by a teenager in Marstone Crescent, Totley, Sheffield, last December.
The dad-of-one was stabbed in his heart in Wensley Gardens, Fir Vale, Sheffield, in September 2017. His killer was jailed for 27 years and blamed his victim for ordering a shooting three months earlier.
Jordan was stabbed at his home in Longley, Sheffield, in 2017 after a man jumped through a window where the dad-of-one was dealing drugs. He got 33 years for murder and a woman was jailed for 15 years for manslaughter.
Leonne was stabbed 28 times in a street attack in Dinnington, Rotherham, in 2017. Her 19-year-old killer was jailed for a minimum of 24-and-a-half years.
Six Birmingham men were stabbed at Crystal on Carver Street in Sheffield city centre on New Year's Day 2018 in a suspected gang attack. Nobody has been charged.
A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in his leg outside Meadowhall shopping centre, Sheffield, in November.
Three men, aged 29, 23 and 22 were stabbed near Cocoon nightclub on the corner of Rockingham Street and Holland Street in Sheffield city centre in February.
Kavan was stabbed in an attack in an alleyway off Langsett Walk, near Upperthorpe, Sheffield, last August. His killer remains at large.
