FIRE chiefs are warning youngsters to keep out of open water during warm spells after children were spotted swimming in the same South Yorkshire lake where a teenager died last summer.
The children were spotted taking unsupervised dips in Manvers Lake, Rotherham, where 15-year-old Phillip Law, of Kilnhurst Road, Rawmarsh, was swimming with pals when he got into difficulties and slipped beneath the surface. The other boys made it to safety.
A fire service spokesman said youngsters have also been seen swimming in Ulley Country Park.
He added: “While the temptation during hot weather may be to cool off in lakes or rivers, it is impossible to gauge their temperature, flow or depth, meaning people can quickly get into difficulties.”
