Promoters Matchroom are awaiting confirmation of the date for a show to be finalised at Bramall Lane - the Football League fixtures will be announced on Wednesday, when the picture should be clearer over when Sheffield United’s stadium will become available.

The American WBO welterweight champion drew attention to the fact Brook does not seem to have signed his side of the deal in an interview with BoxingScene.com.

Having agreed a personal fee of around $1.7m, he is anxious to see all ends tied up. “Everything is signed on my end,” said Vargas.

“Now we have to see if Kell Brook is going to sign the contract.

“From what I hear they want the fight so there shouldn’t be a reason why he isn’t signing.”

Matchroom seem relaxed about the show - which would be one of the great sporting events of the Summer and will attract a big global TV audience and should provide an interesting undercard of local boxers including the likes of Kid Galahad, Adam Etches and David Allen.

Bob Arum, whose Top Rank outfit represents Vargas, told BoxingScene.com the Brook fight was: “a done deal” but he added: “Little points are being finalised but Eddie Hearn assures us that it’s done.”

The Star understands Hearn met with Brook yesterday.

Meanwhile, Vargas says he is well ahead in his normal training camp regime.
