Keep moving the fast way

In 2008 I wrote about an idea to make easier connections for people visiting our city.

The idea is to connect the main transport systems to the city centre by an elevated moving walkway.

The main Sheffield shopping centre is about 80 feet higher than the railway and bus stations.

The moving walkway would be beside the tram stop behind the railway station and would then pass over the railway lines to the bus station, between the Sheffield Hallam University and Adsetts Library building, under Arundel Gate and come out next to the main Sheffield Library on Surrey Street.

Costs for the project would be shared between the Sheffield Council and the rail and bus transport networks. Upkeep could be paid for by selling advertising space inside and outside the structure.

This is my 2020 vision of Sheffield keeping on the move and I believe this would attract more visitors to our city.
