SHE might be a Californian Girl but when it comes to good old fashioned food, pop princess Katy Perry knows which side her bread is buttered.
Just hours before taking to the stage at Sheffield Arena, Katy and entourage sat down to eat at Silversmith’s restaurant in Arundel Street, Sheffield city centre.
And between them they got through a mountain of locally sourced food - and loved every mouthful.
From the restaurant Katy tweeted: “FINALLY! Beloved ENGLAND! First thing I did was stuff me gob w/some Yorkshire puddings & meat pies from Silversmiths in Sheffield. Ah bless.”
Silversmith’s owner Justin Rowntree said Katy was on good form.
“I got a call from the Leopold Hotel where Katy and her people were staying to say she was on her way.
“We were absolutely packed with around 95 diners, but with a bit of juggling we managed to find her a table.”
Justin said the Americans were starving when they arrived - and it wasn’t only food they were after.
They also had a hunger for information.
“Katy was very interested in how we got our name Silversmith’s and was intrigued to hear about Sheffield’s history of silver manufacture.”
“Then she tucked into a meal.
“We first introduced her to Yorkshire pudding. She thought it was funny that we ate puddings as starters but once she got her head around it Katy loved it.
“Then she had a Whirlow Hall Farm meat pie and Henderson’s Relish gravy which she devoured.
“Every plate on the table was completely empty when the party left and they were all very complimentary about what they had eaten.”
Result - but Justin won’t be resting on his laurels.
He hopes to attract another famous American lady next week.
“Rhianna is playing the Arena and we hope to introduced her to some good old fashioned Sheffield snap,” he said.
