Jury deliberates fate of Benjamin Edwards
The jury in the trial of a young man charged with the manslaughter of Chris Henchliffe has this morning retired to consider its verdict.
Benjamin Edwards, 22, is accused of unlawfully killing 26-year-old Mr Henchliffe, who died in hospital nine days after an incident outside the Pomegranate Theatre in Corporation Street, Chesterfield, during the early hours of July 3 last year.
The prosecution claims Edwards punched Mr Henchliffe outside the theatre in an 'act of aggression'. Edwards, of Fieldview Place, Chesterfield, denies manslaughter and argues he 'threw a punch' at the former soldier as he feared he was going to harm his friend.
The jury of six men and six women is currently deliberating Edwards' fate at Nottingham Crown Court.
We'll bring you the verdict when we have it.
