Sheffield sporting royalty Jonny Marray is making a racket for charities.
The tennis ace, who scooped glory in the Wimbledon Men’s Doubles competition, is taking part in a special exhibition match to raise cash for Yorkshire Cancer Research and the Cancer Treatment Research Trust.
He will take to the court alongside legends such as Pat Cash for the fundraising event, which has been organised by airline Jet2.com and David Lloyd, the Yorkshire gym, and will take place in Moortown, Leeds on Sunday, November 24.
People from South Yorkshire are being encouraged to travel to the match, dubbed the Jet2 ProAM, to see the stars in action. There will also be free coaching sessions on offer to children and adults and a family fun day on Saturday, November 23.
Marray, who lives in Sheffield, took some time out of his busy training schedule to visit local schoolchildren and promote the fundraiser.
He said: “It promises to be a fantastic opportunity to meet with some of the best in the sport and enjoy a fun family day out.
“With monies raised going to such an important cause we hope to see as many people there as possible.”
