Cast - Doncaster’s new performance venue - will open its doors on September 6 and the theatre is looking for people to take part in the opening celebrations.

The launch event - titled ‘A Cast of Thousands’ - also marks the launch of Right Up Our Street - a three-year project to get more people involved in the arts in Doncaster.

To celebrate the town’s creativity Cast are calling on local performers to take part in the exciting launch event, taking place on Sir Nigel Gresley Square - directly outside the new venue.

Those who want to join ‘The Cast Of Thousands’ are encouraged to join rehearsals as either singers or dancers.

Choreographers Nathan Geering. Anna Olejnicki and Wayne Sables have joined forces to create a spectacular dance performance piece.

Participants will learn this piece to be performed as part of the opening event.

Another feature of the opening event comes from talented Doncaster duo Rita Payne (Rhiannon Scutt and Pete Sowerby), who have created a brand new anthem to mark the occasion.

Individuals, groups, choirs and dance crews are all encouraged to join rehearsals at Cast. More information is available from or by calling Cast on 01302 303 959.

Graham Whitehead, Head of marketing and communications at Cast: “The opening ceremony ‘A Cast of Thousands’, our opening production ‘The Glee Club’ by leading local playwright Richard Cameron, and our ‘Open House’ weekend which invites visitors in during our first weekend, all in their different ways celebrate the town and its creativity.

“These are just the very first opportunities to be involved in performances here. Cast is more than a place where you can enjoy performances. For those who want to, it’s a place to get in touch with your creative side.”

Opportunities later in the season are also emerging - the first of those looks for toddlers and children to perform with balletLORENT, one of the UK’s leading contemporary ballet companies, in their brand new ballet Rapunzel.

Performed in October half term, budding performers should apply for an audition that takes place this month at Cast. More information is available at or by calling Cast on 01302 303 959.
