Join in debate on town's nightlife

TOP local names are to debate the state of Barnsley's nightlife and they want residents to join in the discussion.

Jayne Dowle of the Barnsley Civic Trust said: "Everybody has a view about Barnsley at night. A great night out? Too many young people drunk on alco-pops? Not enough restaurants? No decent nightclubs?

"Whatever people think, we want them to come and make their voice heard at the Civic Trust's inaugural debate."

"There are many myths and misconceptions about nightlife in Barnsley," said Mel Dyke, from the Big Debate project group.

"The aim of this debate is to establish a realistic view of Barnsley in the evening, how it could be in the future, and what we want the town to offer us."

A panel of high-profile local experts will be discussing what Barnsley has to offer and taking questions from the audience.

The debate will be held between 6pm and 7.30pm on Thursday October 25 at Lucorum in George Yard, chaired by Carol Cooper-Smith, director of the Barnsley Development Agency.
